15TH OF FEBRUARY 2025 LIVE ON FEELN ON THE 5TH
The funeral of FatMan
KENNETH GORDON
The legendary Fatman (Kenneth Gordon) is laid to rest in his home country of Jamaica. Watch the funneral below

Fatman Hi-Fi, led by Kenneth Gordon, better known as Fatman, stands as one of the most iconic sound systems in #UKreggae history. Born in #Waterhouse, Kingston, Jamaica, Gordon moved to #Tottenham, #NorthLondon, in 1963. Initially mentored by Sir Fanso of Tropical Downbeat, Fatman developed his skills in selecting and performing at dances across North London. When Fanso returned to Jamaica, Fatman decided to launch his own sound system in 1974, originally named *Wild Bells*, then *Imperial Downbeat*, before adopting the moniker *Fatman Hi-Fi*, as coined by his followers.
Through hard work—funding his sound by working two jobs—Fatman established a strong reputation, with residencies at venues like the Nightingale in Tottenham and Club Noreik on #SevenSistersRoad. By the late 1970s, Fatman Hi-Fi had become synonymous with North London youth culture, earning the Best Sound System award at the 1979 Black Echoes British Reggae Awards.
Fatman Hi-Fi was known for its heavy sound, featuring an impressive "weight section" of thirty 18-inch speakers. Fatman built a strong relationship with legendary Jamaican producer Prince Jammy, securing exclusive dubs and releasing Jammy's productions on the KG Imperial label. Artists such as MCs Raymond Naptali and Roy Ranking found a platform through the sound system.
In the 1990s, Fatman took a break from live performances to focus on production, promotion, and managing his son’s sound, Gold Star Muzik. By the 2000s, Fatman Hi-Fi returned to the stage, participating in revival dances alongside giants like Sir Coxsone and King Tubby’s. Today, Fatman Hi-Fi remains a respected name in reggae, preserving the legacy of UK sound system culture.
